Hi, I’m Becky, a Specialist Musculoskeletal and Women’s Health Chartered Physiotherapist. I’m the proud owner of The Physio Specialist Clinic based in St Albans. I am passionate about ensuring that women have the best possible postnatal care available, in order that they can look after their baby and prevent future problems.
Having a baby can be one of the most wonderful events in a woman’s life. After nine months nurturing, growing and delivering a baby, the human body has gone through some miraculous changes. Some aspects may return to their pre-pregnancy state quickly, but others can linger. Busy mums need to be able to bend, squat and lift – whether lifting the baby or all the equipment that comes with the tiny addition, pushing a buggy or chasing an unruly toddler! This can often be problematic – up to half of all women have weakness in the tummy muscles and pelvic floor after delivery, whether vaginal or by caesarean section, and up to a third may still have a gap in their abdominal muscles after eight weeks. All these things add up and may lead to instability or poor strength which may affect bladder, bowel and sexual function or cause back and/or pelvic pain.
These conditions do not have to be a problem that you need to put up with! Don’t worry – you’re not alone. Many women suffer in silence fearing that nothing can do done. But there is an alternative and that’s where a Mummy MOT ® comes in – whether you are six weeks post natal or many years down the line, it’s never too late.
At your Mummy MOT® you will receive your own personalised assessment, including:
· Full postural screen
· Pelvic floor muscle assessment
· Abdominal muscle examination to check for any separation
· Screening for any bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction
· Education and advice on safe baby-care activities such as lifting your baby or pushing a buggy
· Bespoke rehabilitation programme with your goals and lifestyle taken into account
· A written report the findings of your assessment
A Mummy MOT is an investment in yourself and your future. After all you wouldn’t drive a car without an MOT! To find out more and access a free video visit www.physiospecialist.co.uk and book your 1-hour Mummy MOT® for £75.
